Château Calon Ségur

Throughout history, the Marquis Ségur has managed to build an absolute legend around Calon, one of the oldest estates in the whole of the Médoc. Historians trace the origins of Calon back to the Gallo-Roman era, while it seems that viticulture dates back to the 12th century.
However, from 1700, thanks to the great intuition of the Marquis, who at the time also owned the Chateau Latour, Lafite and Mouton, the winery began to cloak its production with the myth that still echoes in every bottle today. More recently, Calon Segur was managed with sobriety and elegance from 1894 to 2012 by the Gasqueton family; the property currently belongs to the Suravenir company, a subsidiary of the Crédit Mutuel Arkéa banking group.
The 55 hectares of vineyards owned are adjacent to the village of Saint-Estèphe, completely surrounded by a high stone wall. Among the different grapes that are grown, such as Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot, is the Cabernet Sauvignon which in each vintage reaches at least 3/4 of the blends, up to 90% in the case of particularly favorable years. Little else needs to be added: the hand of man, however fundamental, only serves to preserve the smoothness, freshness and naturalness of the aromas and character of the wines. In the vineyard, every agronomic precaution is cautious and careful, adopted with the utmost respect for the balance of environment, nature, ecosystem and biodiversity, so that, from harvest to harvest, the grapes get to be healthy, frank, rich and concentrated in every smallest organoleptic nuance.
In the cellar, the philosophy continues the approach in the vineyards, whereby each production step, from fermentation to aging, from bottling to refinement, is conducted respecting the highest possible quality level, always trying to enhance what the vintage and the territory were able to bring in each bunch. This way top-level labels come to life, characterized today by a fresh, soft and mature style. The best of enological excellence, cherished in the lands of Bordeaux.
