The story about Donnafugata (Italian for 'escaped woman') necessarily had to begin with a woman's escape. The woman is Queen Marie-Caroline of Bourbon, who in 1805 fled from a Naples invaded by Napoleon and sought refuge in what would become - two centuries later - the estate that made the name of Sicilian winemaking great. Today, Donnafugata signs wines of legendary fame, as legendary as the island which is as close as you get to Paradise on Earth.
