Tasting Notes

This deep-hued, impenetrable ruby-cloaked red wine boasts young, winey aromas highlighted by fragrant notes of blueberry juice, wilted rose and hints of nutmeg. In the mouth, this dry and full-bodied wine offers a certain fruity freshness that is characterised by light aromas of cinnamon that mix with its tannins to offer a strong bite.

Pairing

Thanks to the Barbera grape’s acidity, this wine pairs well with a lovely spread of boiled meats, including fattier cuts such as the head or breast. It also makes for a lovely choice to serve with stewed tripe.

Barbera d’Alba DOC “Serra” 2013 - Massucco: Why we like it

After aging on its own lees in steel tanks a period during which it undergoes various phases of batonnage Massucco’s “Serra” Barbera d’Alba DOC ages for another 12 months in small oak barrels, which is essential to bring out its robustness and to dull its natural acidity. “Serra” is a delightfully well-balanced Barbera wine produced according to a more modern method. It features a robust yet relaxed quality that it is ideally paired with meals.
